Great Haseley vs Holton & Wheatley

Sunday 21 August 2011

Original Report by Neil Robinson

Holton Record Impressive Victory

Last Sunday, we were back at the pleasant ground of Great Haseley, after a break which must have been around 10 years. Captain for the day, Hugh Kitchin lost the toss and Haseley decided to bat.

John Kelly and Graham Hawkins opened the bowling with JK still trying to rid his system of the holiday Ouzo. GH bowled tidily, conceding just six runs from his first six overs and collecting two wickets into the bargain. Binoy replaced JK and continued in the miserly vain conceding just three runs in his four overs and including a wicket. Hugh, obviously trying to make game of it replaced Binoy with myself but I disappointed by taking a wicket with the second ball via a catch from Rohan. I did try to enter the spirit of the game by conceding three fours of successive balls then spoilt it by bowing two of their players, one with a “slower” ball (Is this possible)?  JK, returning and David Morrish took one more each, before Binoy wrapped things up with two wickets in successive deliveries.

Gt Hazeley, 127 all out, 32 overs

Figures.  JK 7/0/1/47  GH 7/1/2/7  Binoy 5.4/ 2 /3/3 ! NR 5/0/3/35  D Morrish 3/1/1/10

Alan Banyard and Hugh opened the batting for H&W and after just six overs were twenty runs ahead of the required run rate, but the increasing accuracy of the bowling lost AB his wicket, caught, in the fourteenth over and by the next over things were back on level terms. Hugh was joined by Simon Switala who again batted well hitting two successive fours until he was caught whilst hooking. Binoy replaced Simon shortly followed by Hugh reaching his fifty, we had hardly finished applauding when he was bowled by the next ball. Mark Deacon was next in but Binoy then took control finishing the game with a six when two runs were required.

H&W CC, 131 for 3, 30 overs

H&W CC scores.   AB, caught 27.   HK, bowled 51.  SS, caught 21.  Binoy, not out 25.  Mark Deacon, not out 0.
